Panelist’s Overview
Dr. Kannan Moudgalya
Dr. Kannan Moudgalya is an Erach and Meheroo Mehta Advanced Education Technology Chair Professor at IIT Bombay. He has a Ph.D. (in Chemical Engineering) and a Master of Electrical Engineering degree from Rice University. He has a B.Tech in chemical engineering from IIT Madras. Kannan was a visiting professor at the University of Alberta during 2003-04. He has written four textbooks and several papers in international journals and conferences. He works in the areas of control, simulation, and modeling. Kannan is now devoting his time to spreading education on a massive scale, without quality dilution.
He has been focusing on spoken tutorials, open-source software systems, and affordable tablets and laptops. He believes that it is possible to provide high-quality education to all our children through a combination of education, and information and communication technologies, making India a developed country in the process. He was a Member of the Standing Committee of the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), MHRD, Government of India, for five years. Kannan received the Google MOOCs Research Award for developing offline capability in Spoken Tutorials. The Spoken Tutorial project received the best price in the Reimagine Education Award, instituted by QS and Wharton School, in the Nurturing Employment category. Kannan received the Pt. DeenDayal Upadhyaya Recognition for Reengineering India 2020.
Ratan Agarwal
Ratan Agarwal serves on the Wheels’ Board as Vice-President, bringing nearly three decades of rich experience in building and scaling multiple new start-ups and executive roles (in strategy, operations, marketing, and business development) at several Fortune 500 companies. Currently, Ratan is a co-founder and managing partner of CARBON Group Global, a global sustainability solutions-holding company, creating rapid replications (‘CARBON Copies”) of proven solutions with market-based models in Education & Learning, Women’s Empowerment, Resources (Food, Energy, Water), Health, and Economic Development.
Minal Karanwal
Minal is an Assistant Collector and Development Officer in Nandurbar, Maharashtra. She was Born and brought up in Dehradun. She studied BA in History and Political Science at St. Stephen’s College Delhi. She cracked civil services in 2019 with an AIR of 35 and has been awarded as the best officer trainee in IAS professional course. Minal is a part of a leadership team that has seen great success with the newborns of Nandurbar using Health Spoken Tutorials.
Dr. Ravindran Kanningat
Dr. Ravindran is the General Manager, Samta Group, Mumbai, and Honorary Vice Consul, Republic of Zimbabwe, Mumbai. He has MCom, MBA, MPhil, and Ph.D. degrees. He worked at Cranfield University, and then in Pharma, Biotech, Mining, and Electronics industries in Nepal, UAE, Uganda, Congo, and Zimbabwe. Dr. Ravindran is a part of the leadership team at Samta that rolled out Spoken Tutorial-based IT training to 70,000 students in Palghar and other tribal districts, and also to prisoners, in Maharashtra.
Amit Kumar
Amit Kumar is a postgraduate computer teacher at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Shimla. He was born and brought up in Sunder Nagar, Mandi, where he studied at JNV. He studied BA in Mathematics and PGDCA in HP university, MCA at Kurukshetra University, and M.Phil Computer Science at Annamalai University. He innovatively trained JNV students using Spoken Tutorials and other methods. He received the President of India National ICT Award in 2015 and the Fulbright Distinguished Award for International Teachers in 2021. For the work in MOOCs, Flipped Learning, and open source software, Amit will receive the President of India National Award in 2022.
Nikita Mhatre
Nikita is a Sr. SAP consultant at IBM. She was born and brought up in Mumbai. She studied polytechnic and then B.E. in IT from Mumbai University. After a brief stint working in the area of PHP/MySQL, she worked at the Application Software Cell, IIT Bombay, for five years. Her current role is end-to-end implementation and roll-out of HR Modules and Projects. She attributes her success to Spoken Tutorials, motivation and hard work.
WHEELS Global Foundation(WGF), “An Initiative of IIT Alumni, USA” with the mission of Technology-Enabled Philanthropy. WHEELS has also been selected by NITI Aayog, Govt. of India as a member of the Committee for Innovation and Technology Transfer. WHEELS has also signed an MOU with the Ministry for Panchayati Raj for a technology partnership in Rural Development.
