Committees act as horizontal resource/capacity pools that support project execution activities of all vertically organized WGF Councils. They develop a comprehensive charter of the activities that need to be driven in their domain for WGF’s overall success (i.e., long-term vision as well as current year goals).

Improving the Lives in Rural India by Technology-enabled Solutions

Engaging CSR

  • In 2014, India became the first country in the world to mandate CSR spend through legislative action. Companies coming under the purview of the CSR mandate, have to spend at least 2% of their average net profits of the preceding three years on social impact programs in the following financial year. In the 8 years of implementation of the CSR law, more than INR 1.53 Lakh Crore has been cumulatively spent by over 30,000+ companies.
  •
  • There is an inability of the development sector to absorb the CSR Funds – creating a big gap. Out of 2.5 lac registered NGOs, less than 20 are above 100 crores, <200 are above 10 crores, creating a large gap in the capacity of NGOs. The government of India’s list of Aspirational Districts will get major portions from CSR funds in the coming years. The next wave of mandates will be ESG Integration, Long Term Impact Investing and Multi-stakeholder Outcomes. There is a phenomenal opportunity for NGOs to tap into the CSR funds as more than 50% of the projects (~94,000 Crores) are executed through implementing agencies (NGOs).
