WGF’s Livelihood & Sustainability Council’s (LSC) mission is to enhance rural economy through co-creating and advancing rural enterprises, using technology innovations and scientific processes, sharing best practices and developing techniques to foster trade and employment for rural populations.

Grameen Foundation’s holistic approach to ending poverty supports women entrepreneurs, smallholder farmers, and young women, clearing pathways to their economic success by dismantling the barriers that stand in their way and strengthening local partners and resources to more fully support them. Working through India, Asia, Africa and Latin America, Grameen’s work starts by facilitating conversations in households and communities to reconsider gender roles and ensure against the unintended consequences that may occur when women use their power to succeed.
Out of the 581 million women in India today, 1 in 4 do not have access to formal financial services. For women in rural areas, this concern is compounded by restricted mobility, lack of personal mobile phones, and little or no technical knowledge. Women entrepreneurs’ needs go far beyond credit and loans.
Grameen Foundation works with 25% of women micro-entrepreneurs to improve financial access and health, profitability, resilience, and agency throughout their entrepreneurial journey.
Reached over 2 million individuals in 2023, increasing the average monthly income of Grameen agents and business entrepreneurs by 44%. Plans to partner with 10,000 women over the next 3 years, supporting them as they exit poverty permanently, and providing monumental change for generations to come.
